Engagements

Your legal matter's home base

Engagements

Engagements are the containers for your legal matters. They are the "home base" where all documents, communications, and workflows belong.

Inside an Engagement

An Engagement holds all context required to resolve a legal issue or complete a transaction:

Documents

All files, contracts, pleadings, and reference materials.

Routines

Live automated workflows driving the matter forward.

Collaborators

Team members and clients with controlled, role-based access.

Engagement Statuses

Engagements move through different statuses over their lifecycle:

  1. Active: A live, ongoing case or deal with active collaboration.
  2. On Hold: Temporarily paused but retaining all its data and context.
  3. Completed: The matter is resolved, but remains accessible for reference.
  4. Archived: A historical, view-only record stored for long-term retention.

Workspace Types

Your organization's Workspace Type determines which Block types are available across all Routines in your workspace. This is set at the organization level, not per-Engagement.

  • Litigation: Manage cases, discovery, and legal proceedings.
  • Research: Legal research and academic analysis.
  • Corporate: Corporate legal matters and compliance.
  • Government: Public sector and regulatory affairs.
  • Healthcare: Healthcare law and medical compliance.

Your Workspace Type controls which Blocks appear in the Routine builder. For example, Litigation workspaces surface Discovery and Filing blocks, while Research workspaces include DataCollection and EthicsReview. Corporate is the most flexible option if your firm handles a mix of matter types.

Managing Engagements

  • Tagging & Codes: Categorize Engagements using tags and billing codes for easy retrieval.
  • Access Limits: Invite external parties (like third-party counsel) to specific Engagements without exposing your wider dashboard.
